Form 990 Filing Guide for Nonprofits: What You Need to Know
James Okonkwo·March 10, 2025
Every tax-exempt organization with gross receipts over $50,000 must file a Form 990 annually. Missing this filing — or filing it incorrectly — can jeopardize your tax-exempt status and damage donor trust.
Which 990 Form Do You Need?
The IRS requires different versions based on your organization's size: Form 990-N (e-Postcard) for gross receipts under $50,000, Form 990-EZ for receipts between $50,000 and $200,000, and the full Form 990 for larger organizations.
